Frequently asked questions
Should I have a scan for a lump in my neck?
A scan helps identify what a lump is and what may be causing it. Most neck lumps are harmless, but it is important to check.
When should I see a doctor?
If a lump lasts more than a couple of weeks, gets bigger or is painful, or comes with weight loss, fever or changes in your voice or swallowing.
Is it safe?
Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, and has no known side effects. A small amount of gel is applied to the skin and a handheld probe is moved gently over the area. You can return to your day straight afterwards.
